Streamlining the path to a Permanent Resident’s Certificate is among plans for the island’s economic development to go before MPs today.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, is to update the House of Assembly on the four-year plan after his announcement yesterday on PRCs.

He said that boosting Bermuda’s working population was to be a pillar of the strategy.

Altering PRC eligibility would require amendments to the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act, with changes to work permit policy, along with a reform of the Immigration Board, making it an independent advisory structure.

Mr Hayward will also report on changes to the child daycare allowance.

Walter Roban, the Minister of Home Affairs, will give a statement on obtaining death certificates — a process for which residents have highlighted significant delays in recent years.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, will speak on the launch of a public health app as well as Covid-19 after a resurgence of the virus last month.

An update on Public Access to Information regulations and where fees are to be introduced, will be given by Vance Campbell, the Minister of Tourism and the Cabinet Office.

Michael Weeks, the national security minister, is to address MPs on the island’s cybersecurity regime.

The lone item up for debate on the Order paper is the Personal Information Protection Amendment Act 2023.

Mr Campbell signalled yesterday that Bermuda’s Pipa laws were slated to come into effect by January 1, 2025.
