Young people are invited to register for Youth Parliament Bermuda, where they can expect to learn more about civic engagement, hear from guest speakers and develop leadership skills.

It meets on Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm during the school year.

A spokesman said: “This unique and empowering programme aims to cultivate the next generation of informed and engaged citizens by providing young Bermudians with an immersive learning experience in civics, parliamentary procedures and local issues.

“After the success of previous sessions, Youth Parliament is thrilled to continue its mission of fostering active citizenship and leadership skills among young people.

“The programme spans 30 weeks and offers a dynamic curriculum designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of democratic principles, parliamentary practices and the intricate workings of government.”

Key highlights include the opportunity to “delve into the heart of democracy, gaining insights into the fundamentals of civic engagement, the structure of the Bermuda Government and the art of effective parliamentary debate”.

The spokesman said: “A significant focus will be placed on issues directly impacting Bermuda’s youth.

“Through rigorous discussions and engaging activities, participants will have the opportunity to address and advocate for solutions to these important matters.”

Speakers will include government officials, politicians and community leaders while the programme will also feature mock parliamentary sessions, “allowing participants to apply their knowledge in a simulated legislative environment”.

The spokesman said: “This hands-on experience will sharpen their public speaking, negotiation and decision-making skills.”

He added: “Youth Parliament seeks to empower young leaders with the tools to advocate effectively for their peers and contribute positively to their community.

“Leadership development and project management skills will also be emphasised.”

The spokesman said: “The resumption of Youth Parliament Bermuda is a testament to the programme’s commitment to nurturing a generation of informed, passionate and proactive citizens who are poised to shape Bermuda’s future.”
