Government launches IT apprenticeship
A new apprenticeship was designed to equip Bermudians with skills in information technology, the House of Assembly heard today.
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, said the Government launched the Information and Technology Development Programme in February as a way to “cultivate a pipeline of Bermudian expertise” in IT.
Mr Rabain told MPs: “In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the demand for experienced IT professionals is significant and like many jurisdictions, Bermuda has faced challenges in recruiting and retaining this vital talent.”
The three-year apprenticeship covers ten key areas of IT, including hardware maintenance, network infrastructure and developing citizen-centred solutions.
Three apprentices are enrolled in the programme and demonstrate their knowledge through capstone projects after each unit.
The minister added: “This programme underscores this government's commitment to digital transformation and empowering Bermudians to participate fully in the opportunities of the digital age.
“We are confident that the ITDP will cultivate a new generation of talented IT professionals who will contribute significantly to our public services' efficiency, security and innovation.
“We look forward to continuing to recognise the accomplishments of our first cohort of apprentices as they advance through the programme and to welcoming the next cohort in due course.”
