House: further tax breaks up for debate
Legislators are expected to be updated today about the work of the Bermuda Monetary Authority as well as progress on the Government’s strategy for youth employment.
MPs will return to the House of Assembly, where six ministerial statements are scheduled for delivery.
David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, is expected to provide information about the BMA’s annual report for 2024.
Additionally, Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, is to speak on hurricane preparedness, with the season starting on Sunday.
Owen Darrell, the culture minister, will address the House on this year’s Bermuda Day commemorations.
Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, will give an update on the Government’s youth employment strategy, followed by the Trade Marks Amendment Act 2025, while Diallo Rabain, the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, will speak on streamlining measures at the Department of Planning.
Three pieces of legislation could be discussed in the House today.
MPs are set to debate the Customs Tariff Amendment Act, removing the duty on hospital operating supplies, and the Land Tax Amendment Act, which cuts the base land tax from $300 to $150.
Additionally, the Payroll Tax Amendment Act cuts an employee’s liability to payroll tax on remuneration given in connection with the permanent termination of their employment.
