The corporate income tax will be debated twice today in the House of Assembly, starting with legislation bringing the regime in line with the regulations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, under the Corporate Income Tax Amendment (No 2) Bill 2025.

The Opposition also plans to proceed with a motion brought to the House by Douglas De Couto, the Shadow Minister of Finance, for legislators to examine the “opportunities, challenges and risks to Bermuda” arising from the tax.

The Tax Credits Bill 2025 is up for its second reading. The Bill seeks to introduce credits to develop the operations on the island of industries that are deemed “instrumental in the growth and development of the Bermuda economy” and to “recognise and encourage charitable contributions, where such charitable contributions represent a meaningful contribution to the community”.

MPs will debate the Statistics (Census of Population and Housing) Order 2025, tabled last month by Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, which will set the island’s first census since 2016 to run from May 21, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

Among ministerial statements will be an update by David Burt, the Premier, on attending the Joint Ministerial Council in London for the leaders of the British Overseas Territories.

Zane DeSilva, Deputy Premier and Minister of Housing and Municipalities, will give an update on government housing plans and the Bermuda Housing Corporation’s private-sector refurbishment programme.

Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, will address MPs on a new X-ray facility for the customs department while Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, will give an update on the Transport Control Department’s digitisation.

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, will deliver the 2024-25 annual report and financial statements for Bermuda College.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, will speak on the island’s United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities and Human Rights Day.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, will update MPs on the November 2024 labour force survey report.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, will speak on the island’s progress towards universal healthcare.

Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, is scheduled to speak on “addressing Bermuda’s growing feral chicken population”.
