Maxanne Caines has been declared the newest councillor for the Corporation of Hamilton after no other candidates put their names forward.

Ms Caines, who runs her own events business and is active in charitable work, will fill the Residents’s Councillor seat left vacant by RoseAnn Edwards, who stepped down from the post after 13 years on October 21.

A Government spokesman said: “Nomination Day for the extraordinary municipal election to fill the position of Residents’s Councillor for the Corporation of Hamilton was held today.

“At the close of nominations, the election was declared uncontested, and Maxanne Javita Caines was duly declared elected to the position of Residents’s Councillor.”

A spokeswoman for the Corporation of Hamilton confirmed the news, adding: “The Corporation congratulates Ms Caines on her selection. She is scheduled to be formally sworn in on Tuesday.

“In keeping with protocol, a further statement will be issued following the swearing-in ceremony.”
