Trump: Bermuda, Bahamas, whatever

Donald Trump, President of the United States of America

International media outlets reported that US President Donald Trump appeared to confuse Bermuda with the Bahamas at a Black History Month event this week.

During a reception at the White House on Wednesday, Mr Trump sought to refute allegations of racism noting a series of Black athletes and celebrities whom he described as his friends.

Among those he listed was Herschel Walker, a former professional American football player who Mr Trump noted now served as the US ambassador to the Bahamas.

He then added: “I don’t know. Bahamas, Bermuda, is he Berhamas? Whatever. It’s a nice place.”

The comment, which sparked laughter at the event, was reported by multiple media outlets including The Mirror and the Colbert Show, which said that Mr Trump had mixed up two predominantly Black countries.
