Rabain provides digitisation updates
The Government has laid the foundation to create a unified digital space and modernise services, MPs heard this week.
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, provided updates on the Government’s digital transformation programme, launched in December.
The scheme involved a $2.1 million contract between island telecommunications company Paradise Mobile, Google Cloud and Abacus that would “set the foundation for a modern, responsive public sector”.
Mr Rabain said at the time: “A unified digital government experience will significantly reduce wait times, streamline service delivery and make it easier than ever for the public to engage with the Government.”
He said on Monday that, with a secure portal set up, priority forms digitised and an “intelligent chatbot” established, the programme’s “foundation phase” is complete.
The minister Rabain explained: “[The chatbot] helps people find the forms and facts they need at any hour — think of it as a clerk who never sleeps and is always ready to help.”
He added that the Government is now preparing for phase 2 of the programme, which involves expanding the one-stop shop where people can make payments, and introducing single and multi-factor login authentication.
Mr Rabain said: “By building these systems, we are creating a place where Bermudian tech talent can stay and work.
“We want to stop the loss of our best minds to other countries, we are building a digital home for them right here.”
He highlighted that the Government plans to make the systems simple enough for everyone to use and provide support to those who may need it.
Mr Rabain said: “The Government remains clear in its goal, we are building the Bermuda of tomorrow. It is a digitally empowered place ready to serve.”
