Hayward highlights work to support entrepreneurs
Work by the Government to support Bermudian entrepreneurs and small businesses has continued, the Minister of Economy and Labour said today.
Jason Hayward’s comments in the House of Assembly were from his third update in a week on the strategic priorities of the Economic Development Strategy.
The latest report, dated November 2025, highlighted the work of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation to improve access to practical support for entrepreneurs.
Mr Hayward said: “This includes providing business advice, training and guidance to those who are moving from a simple business idea to a registered business and from a small operation to a growing employer.
“BEDC is delivering practical support through one-to-one advice and structured programmes that include financing and that help entrepreneurs expand networks and build sustainable enterprises that create stable jobs.
“In addition, BEDC is ensuring that the products that it designs, and that intend to support entrepreneurs, are understood, accessible and used by the people they intend to help.”
Mr Hayward said BEDC’s ByBermuda Virtual Marketplace helps local businesses build an online presence with 65 sellers and 85 platforms on the e-commerce platform.
He added that supporting entrepreneurs helps to provide Bermudians with access to opportunities.
Mr Hayward added: “It is about backing Bermudians who are prepared to take the risk of building something of their own and ensuring that they have the tools, finance, skills and support to grow.
“This is how we strengthen our local economy, expand employment and build a broader base for long-term prosperity.”
The report noted that the BEDC had finalised its 2025-26 strategic plan with the implementation strategy “nearing completion” as of the creation of the report.
