David Burt has sent a letter to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain regarding the Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom.

In his letter to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Premier expressed solidarity with the Kingdom in safeguarding its security and stability following reported renewed attacks by Iran on Gulf states.

Mr Burt expressed his wish for the Kingdom’s continued progress and prosperity.

The letter came as Mr Burt also discussed Bermuda’s position in international business during a visit to Luxembourg this week.

A government spokeswoman said Mr Burt, who is also the Minister of Finance, met with Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Gilles Roth, the country’s finance minister, during the visit.

The spokeswoman said: “These meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, discuss matters of international finance and highlight Bermuda's track record as a compliant, transparent and well-regulated international business jurisdiction.”

Mr Burt also met with Nicholas Limbourg and Marc Hengen, president and managing director of the Luxembourg Insurance and Reinsurance Association, during the visit.

The spokeswoman said: “The discussions underscored the shared interests of Bermuda and Luxembourg as leading global insurance and reinsurance jurisdictions and reinforced Bermuda's continued commitment to maintaining its Solvency II equivalence with the European Union.”

Solvency II framework protects beneficiaries and policyholders in the EU.

Mr Burt also met with Ioannis Tsakiris, vice-president of the European Investment Bank, to explore opportunities for support and investment partnerships.

Mr Burt: “Our message to partners in Luxembourg and across the EU remains consistent — Bermuda is a trusted, compliant and forward-looking partner.”
