Members of the Senate gave condolences to the Minister of Public Works and Environment after his younger brother was killed in a powerboat crash at the weekend.

Progressive Labour Party senator Lindsay Simmons hailed Rickai “Pugi” Raynor as a man who “loved life” and loved his family “with all his heart”.

She recognised him as a close family member of Jaché Adams, adding: “I was with Jaché when I received the news, and their family are a great family.

“I just want to wish his mom, his dad, his brothers, his nieces, his nephews, but especially his daughter and son, condolences.

“Condolences to the Adams-Raynor family. We’re praying with you and I know your PLP family stand behind you.”

Mr Raynor was in the Bermuda Power Boat Association’s race series on Sunday when his vessel crashed into a moored boat at about 3.45pm.

He was pronounced dead after sustaining a serious head injury, while his co-pilot underwent treatment for a head laceration.

PLP senator Mischa Fubler also offered his condolences to the Raynor family, explaining that Mr Raynor lived in his constituency.

He said: “We interacted on more than one occasion, so it was a great shock and disheartening to see the news over the weekend.”

Mr Fubler said his neighbourhood held a celebration of his life last night.

He added: “I hope they find peace. Working through grief can be challenging, especially when it is unexpected.”

One Bermuda Alliance senator Tarik Dunbar-Smith joined in with his condolences towards Mr Raynor’s family, alongside Senate president Joan Dillas-Wright and Government Senate Leader Kim Wilkerson.

Ms Wilkerson noted that she was familiar with Mr Raynor’s mother as a forensic nurse and gave out the Senate’s “hearts and prayers” to her and Mr Raynor’s children.
