MPs are expected to hear of moves to crack down on marriage fraud, along with boosting the housing stock and the island’s showing at the Commonwealth Games when legislators return to the House of Assembly today.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, is to make a statement on the policy proposal dealing with sham marriages while Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, will discuss the issue of Bermuda’s public school readiness for the 2026-27 academic year, along with the 2026 scholarships and awards.

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, is scheduled to update the House on public transportation.

The Reverend Emily Gail Dill, the Minister of the Cabinet Office and Digital Innovation, will speak on the public service scholarship awards for this year.

Among other topics are questions for Mr Darrell from the Leader of the Opposition, Ben Smith.

Mr Smith will pose three queries for the minister including the details of his attendance at the football World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, and the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Mr Darrell is also expected to answer questions about any official meetings he had at these sporting events, whom he met and the purpose of these discussions.

Mr Smith is to ask the minister how many Bermudian athletes took part in the World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, and the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Debates are expected to be limited to a government Bill, the Motor Car and Auxiliary Bicycles Act 2026, which includes reducing the number of inspections required for new cars within the first five years after licensing, and removing the requirement for a certificate of physical fitness when renewing driver’s licences up to age 70.
