Two experts on climate risk and resilience strategies will be panellists on a webinar hosted by the Bermuda Business Development Agency this month.Samantha Medlock, senior counsel for the US House select committee on the climate crisis, and Collin O’Mara, president and chief executive officer of the National Wildlife Federation, the largest non-profit conservation organisation in the US, will join the event on July 23.The webinar will explore the latest developments in climate risk and resilience strategies.Stephen Weinstein, who will moderate, said: “The ongoing coronavirus crisis, together with the start of the 2020 hurricane season, has brought to the forefront the need for systemic approaches to mitigate our most important global risks. And no risk is more important to our long-term economic and social prosperity than climate-related risk.”Mr Weinstein is group general counsel at Bermudian-based RenaissanceRe, and deputy chairman of the BDA.The webinar panel will discuss the select committee’s latest work which “provides a blueprint for actionable solutions to achieve economic growth while protecting public health and reducing the threat of climate change”. It will also look at the National Wildlife Federation’s “leadership on conservation and habitat issues, ranging from recent wins in Congress to the launch of new research on the protective value of nature, will also be a key focus”. In addition, the webinar will offer perspectives on how global businesses are preparing to mitigate climate risks and allocate capital to support transition and adaptation needs.
