Bermuda Captive Conference delegates planning to return
Preliminary results from a post-event survey for the Bermuda Captive Conference (BCC) (www.bermudacaptive.bm) has revealed overwhelming support of the conference agenda by delegates. The BCC was held June 5-8 at the Fairmont Southampton Resort in Bermuda and nearly all the respondents to the survey so far have indicated that they would return to the Conference next year.In its seventh year the BCC had a record 557 delegates, a large number of whom were Bermuda captive owners, risk managers and others seeking information on forming a captive insurer and learning about other insurance products available in Bermuda.Survey respondents almost unanimously agreed that the BCC was highly educational and provided a great opportunity for delegates to network.Peggy Rychtarik director of risk Management for Alberto Culver Co was one of many attending risk managers who agreed. The Melrose Park, Illinois executive commented: “I walked away from the Bermuda Captive Conference with new insights, thoughts and actual experiences from existing and new colleagues and service providers. The networking opportunities were plentiful and the quality of the sessions was top notch.”The speakers and sessions were extremely highly-rated and 97 percent of those responding said they recommend the conference to their peers and will return next year for the BCC from June 3 to 6.Premier Paula Cox congratulated the BCC Organising Committee for hosting another highly successful conference. Premier Cox opened the BCC and participated in the first panel discussion on the state of Bermuda markets and the bright future of the Island as an insurance domicile.“The Bermuda Captive Conference is a first class example of how Bermuda companies work together, an important and key concept in this economic reality,” the Premier said.“Bermuda’s banks, law firms and accountants joined with captive managers and others in the insurance industry to host a first class event at a leading Bermuda hotel.”BCC Chairman Jill Husbands, Head of Office at Marsh IAS Management Services (Bermuda) Limited, said: “We have been pleased with the Premier’s involvement in the BCC since its early days. Her government and her Ministry of Finance have been strong assets in the development of this conference and the success of Bermuda’s insurance industry.” A riveting presentation by AIG CEO Robert Benmosche about the company’s recovery since a US Government bail-out was one of the revealing sessions that delegates pointed to as conference highlights.“Feedback from the conference has been phenomenal, with long time delegates declaring it the best ever,” Ms Husbands said. “The educational sessions have been highlighted as particularly informative. For that we are grateful, because a lot of time is put into planning the sessions.”Ms Husbands said the BCC has nearly doubled in size since the first event in 2005 which attracted about 300 people. She believes that it has the potential to grow further.
