Selb joins XL’s US team

XL Group’s North America Property and Casualty insurance unit has announced the appointment of Lorraine Seib as president of its excess casualty team.Reporting to Seraina Maag, chief executive of XL’s North America property and casualty insurance group and based in New York, Ms Seib will manage XL’s global excess casualty business with underwriting operations in New York, Bermuda, Dublin, London and Toronto as well as US field operations in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.Ms Maag said: “XL has strong roots as an excess casualty market with its birth in Bermuda to address business’ casualty needs when adequate insurance coverage was hard to come by. While we celebrate the 25th anniversary of those beginnings, we’re looking ahead to our next 25 years with plans to extend our Excess Casualty global capabilities into markets and industries that can benefit most from our expertise.“With over 30 years of insurance underwriting and management experience, Lorraine steps into this new position with a proven track record of not only producing profitable growth but bringing together multiple business units to work toward one cohesive goal.“Under Lorraine’s direction, we’re looking to maximise our global Excess Casualty capacity and Lead Umbrella capabilities.”Ms Seib joins XL from Travelers where she served as president of excess casualty since 2005, managing the company’s excess casualty business, including its lead umbrella business, with underwriting capabilities in 22 offices. Prior to her most recent position, she served as St Paul/Travelers’ chief underwriting officer for excess casualty, stepping into this position following St Paul’s acquisition of Kemper’s excess casualty business unit, where she also served as chief underwriting officer. Her professional career also includes tenure with Reliance National and Chubb Custom Market.
