Third Point Re hires two from Aon Benfield

New Bermuda-based reinsurer, Third Point Re, is building its team with the hiring announcement of two senior executives, both from Aon Benfield.Rob Bredahl was appointed as chief financial officer and chief operating officer, and Dan Malloy was named executive vice-president of Third Point Re’s underwriting division.Mr Bredahl joins Third Point Re from Aon Benfield, where he was CEO of Aon Benfield Securities and president of Aon Benfield Americas.There, he led Aon Benfield’s investment banking effort, focusing on capital-raising for start-up insurance and reinsurance companies, merger and acquisition advisory, and all forms of Insurance Linked Securities, and was the lead banker and advisor on the formation of Third Point Re.Mr Bredahl was also a member of Aon Benfield’s global management committee.He received a BA in Economics from Middlebury College in Vermont and attended the Executive Risk Management Programme at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.Mr Malloy also joins Third Point Re from Aon Benfield where he was co-head of their Specialty Practice Groups and led a team that originated, structured and placed highly customised reinsurance treaties.According to the company, many of the types of reinsurance structures and lines of business on which Mr Malloy’ team focused at Aon Benfield will be targeted by Third Point Re.Mr Malloy spent his entire 30-year career in the reinsurance market and has held a number of high-profile leadership positions.Prior to joining Aon Benfield, he headed the Specialty Lines Group at Benfield Inc. and was a member of Benfield’s US management committee.Mr Malloy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.John Berger, Chairman and CEO of Third Point Reinsurance said: “I am thrilled that Dan and Rob will be joining Third Point Re.“I have known both for many years and believe we are fortunate to have executives of their stature join our company.“I have worked with both across the table on several transactions and now look forward to working on the same team.”Third Point Re is a property and casualty reinsurance company formed in 2012 with $785 million of capital.
