RenRe takes home top honours at Reactions Awards

Neill Currie accepted three awards for RenRe at last weeks Reactions Awards 2012 in New York.

Bermuda-based RenaissanceRe took home three industry awards last week — claiming the title of Best Reinsurer at the annual Reactions Awards 2012 and two others.Reactions is a UK-based insurance publication and website and their awards look to recognise the best insurance, reinsurance and broking companies across the globe, as well as the industry’s service providers and the market’s outstanding personalities.RenaissanceRe won the overall award for best reinsurer, as well as the property-catastrophe category and best Bermuda market company category.“We are honoured to be recognised by the global insurance industry,” said Neill Currie, president and CEO of RenaissanceRe. “Everyone at RenaissanceRe, across every function, works hard to solve our clients’ challenges and exceed their expectations. I was proud to accept these three awards in New York on behalf of the entire team.“Winning ‘Best Overall Reinsurance Company’ for the first time highlights our growing reputation in the Specialty and Lloyd’s markets, while being named ‘Best Property Catastrophe Reinsurer’ for the fourth year running is a nod to the continued fine work by our Cat team. As a Bermuda-headquartered company, I believe these awards attest to our Island’s premier position in the global reinsurance market.”Among the insurers, Ace won the global award, with Travelers, Zurich, QBE and Mapfre scooping regional gongs for North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, respectively.Transatlantic Re triumphed for the casualty/liability award, Scor claimed victory in the life reinsurance category, and Munich Re took the specialty award for aviation, energy and marine lines. In the broking categories, insurance broking CEO of the year went to Brian Duperreault of MMC, while the reinsurance broker award for 2012 went to Guy Carpenter’s Alex Moczarski. Marsh also won the award for best global insurance broker, and Guy Carpenter won the reinsurance broking award.Reactions also honoured QBE’s CEO Frank O’Halloran with a lifetime achievement award. The awards are the result of an online poll of Reaction’s readers and through informal interviews with underwriting executives, broking executives, equity analysts and other observers.
