The Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies (BFIS) is visiting Island schools to tell students about the possibilities of careers in the insurance industry. The industry-funded charity, which provides scholarships and internships in Bermuda and overseas, plans to visit each of the high schools as well as some middle schools to talk to senior students. Yesterday, a group from BFIS gave a presentation at Bermuda High School.Using a video, their recently published ‘Careers In Insurance’ booklet and alumni who are now working in the insurance sector, BFIS gives the students a broad overview of the industry and career opportunities.BFIS executive director Cathy Lapsley said: “We have found that this method works well as it not only speaks to the students who are focused on business but gives them all a better understanding of the importance of the insurance sector to Bermuda, its history and its impact on every facet of the community and the economy.”She went to say that students who wanted to learn in more depth about the many different careers in insurance are invited to lunch and learns where they can meet with industry professionals in smaller groups. For more information, visit the BFIS website, www.bfis.bm.
