Healthcare insurance executives seek to drum up business in Washington
Bermuda healthcare insurance market executives yesterday hosted hundreds of their clients on a lunchtime cruise along the Potomac River, near the US capital city, Washington DC.The event was sponsored by the Bermuda Insurance Development Council (IDC) and representative companies within the Bermuda Healthcare Markets. It was occasioned by the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on the Potomac in National Harbor, Maryland. It is estimated that more than 20 Bermuda market representatives are in attendance from captive management and insurance companies and even someone reportedly from Bermuda Hospitals. The annual meeting is so important to Bermuda’s healthcare writers, the IDC establishes an exhibit in the conference hall providing literature and answering questions about Bermuda. The IDC’s director of information services, David Fox, said, “Bermuda companies are involved significantly in the provision of risk management solutions in healthcare and that is not likely to change anytime soon.“ASHRM attracts about 2,000 attendees mostly from across the United States. It is the premier healthcare risk management conference in North America. Delegates have maybe a hundred educational sessions running through to Wednesday, focusing on issues like patient safety, together with numerous chances for dialogue on a number of issues, including insurance opportunities.“ASHRM says the event is also designed to help delegates stay current with industry changes and enhance management skills.“A surprising number of Bermuda clients stop by the Bermuda exhibit and tell us about the insurance solutions they found in Bermuda and their intention to continue with them.”ASHRM is a part of the American Hospital Association which counts some 5,000 risk managers as members.
