Reinsurer Canopius Group has announced that Susan Patschak, CEO of Canopius Bermuda has decided to step down from this position with effect from 31 May 2013. This move is driven by her decision to assume a new role within the US insurance industry.Stephen Hartwig, senior vice president, Canopius Underwriting Bermuda Limited (CUBL) has been named Ms Patschak’s successor, subject to the necessary regulatory consents. Mr Hartwig has led the Excess Casualty underwriting team at CUBL since 2008 and played an important part in the development of Canopius’s growing presence in Bermuda.“Since our entry into the Bermuda market over five years ago, Susan has ably led our first platform outside London and built a successful franchise and respected brand,” said Michael Watson, executive chairman of Canopius. “Susan deserves huge credit for her role in this achievement and I have every confidence that her new venture in the industry will reflect her high standards and result in her continued success.”Inga Beale, CEO of Canopius, said: “Steve Hartwig's impressive record at Canopius since 2008 makes him the ideal choice as the new chief executive of Canopius Bermuda.
