A Singapore-based executive is to join insurance and reinsurance underwriters Argo Group.

William Wharton has been appointed to head professional lines operations in Bermuda.

He joins Argo from Catlin Insurance Singapore, where he served as head of financial lines for Asia.

Argo global head of professional lines Steve McGill said: “Bill brings a broad range of underwriting and management experience to Argo Group, along with a very strong background building outstanding teams and product offerings in many key global markets.

“Bill’s deep product knowledge coupled with his strong market relationships will serve us well as we continue to grow and expand our professional lines platform in Bermuda.”

Mr Wharton has also held senior positions at XL Insurance, where he was chief underwriting officer for professional lines, focusing on underwriting activities outside the US and Bermuda, as well as overseeing professional lines underwriting in the UK and Australia.

He has also served in senior management positions with Marsh & McLennan, Johnson & Higgins and Chubb Insurance.

Mr McGill said: “I look forward to working with Bill as part of our professional lines leadership team.

“Bill’s experience in Asia and Europe, in addition to Bermuda and the US, will complement our desire to profitably expand our business throughout the world.”
