Everest hires former Montpelier executive

Top hire: Everest Re has recruited Christopher Downey as deputy chief underwriting officer

Bermudian reinsurer Everest Re Group has hired a former Montpelier Re executive to take a senior underwriting role.

Christopher Downey will join Everest as deputy chief underwriting officer.

At Montpelier Re, he served as senior vice-president and head of the company’s global casualty and specialty treaty unit. He was also a member of the executive committee and the underwriting leadership team.

Before joining Montpelier in 2012, Mr Downey had been senior vice-president with Alterra Bermuda Ltd, formerly known as Max Bermuda Ltd, where he spent 12 years, and was responsible for managing several of its underwriting and actuarial units covering a broad spectrum of risks.

Mr Downey began his insurance career as an actuary with Tillinghast-Towers Perrin and graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering.

John Doucette, executive vice-president and chief underwriting officer, said: “We are very excited to have Chris join the Everest team. He brings a wealth of experience across many facets of the business that will be invaluable as we continue to expand the Everest platform in many different areas.”
