Wilton Re welcomes summer intern to actuarial team
Wilton Reinsurance has selected Marli Spriggs as this year’s summer intern from a field of strong applicants.
The firm has been offering placements for interns in collaboration with the Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers summer internship placement programme for a decade.
Ms Spriggs is an undergraduate pursuing a bachelor of science in economics at the University of Warwick in the English Midlands.
She will support Wilton Re’s actuarial and accounting teams through a range of tasks related to risk assessment, reserving and financial analysis.
This will include the compilation of model output, data and sensitivity analyses, spreadsheet modelling including macro writing and preparation of reports and presentations.
Ms Spriggs will learn about industry regulatory and compliance requirements and the practical aspects of risk management.
She has a strong interest in applying her quantitative background to Bermuda’s life reinsurance space.
“After Warwick, I intend to pursue a master’s degree in actuary science or financial mathematics to better equip myself with the technical skills needed to sit the actuarial exams over the next couple of years,” she said.
She hoped the experience would improve her understanding of the life side of actuarial science in Bermuda.
Sylvia Oliveira, Wilton Re’s chief executive officer, said she was proud to be part of a reinsurance industry that was deeply committed to investing in local talent.
“Supporting students like Marli is one of the most meaningful ways we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for our sector,” Ms Oliviera said.
“Marli brings impressive talent and drive. We are excited to welcome her to the team this summer.”
