College unveils high-tech classroom funded by Global Atlantic Re
Bermuda College has opened a fully renovated, technology-enhanced classroom thanks to a $100,000 donation from Global Atlantic Re.
The 402-square-foot space, upgraded over the summer and now in use, supports hybrid learning and will serve students across several academic programmes.
The project was led by Cleun Gaiton, the college’s director of facilities, and completed by Limestone Construction.
The renovation includes a full electrical overhaul, new LED lighting, a modern HVAC system, new flooring and ceiling tiles, and the removal of outdated ductwork.
The room now has an 86-inch wall display, Crestron Air Media wireless connectivity, ceiling speakers, wireless microphones and the ability to link with the nearby Athene Lecture Theatre for overflow sessions. New flexible furniture supports group work and collaborative teaching.
Kerry Judd, the executive director of the Bermuda College Foundation, said the project showed the value of private-sector partnerships.
“Global Atlantic’s generosity has enabled us to create a space that reflects the future of education — flexible, inclusive and technologically advanced,” she said.
David Sam, the President of Bermuda College, said the upgrades gave students reliable access to modern tools and ensured they could join classes remotely when needed.
“This is an investment in our students’ success,” he said.
Darryl Herrick, the managing director and co-head of reinsurance at Global Atlantic and president of Global Atlantic Re, said the company was proud to support the island’s students.
“We’re honoured to support this project and hope it will create an inspiring environment where students can learn and thrive,” he said.
The donation follows Global Atlantic’s separate four-year, $25,000-per-year commitment to support scholarships and education grants for Bermuda College students.
