Key appointments at Carrick Group
Aidan Mills has been appointed vice-president of mergers and acquisitions in Bermuda for Carrick Group Ltd, the Class 3A insurer. It is one of two recent appointments the company said would strengthen the team.
Mr Mills said: “It is a privilege to join Carrick at such a transformative stage in its journey, stepping into the vice-president of M&A role where I can leverage my finance and accounting background while expanding into actuarial-focused work.
“I look forward to collaborating with such highly respected leaders in the legacy insurance space, and I’m thrilled to contribute to Carrick’s continued growth and innovation.”
Mr Mills was most recently assistant vice-president at Chubb in Bermuda. He started his career with Deloitte in Sydney, Australia, and previously worked in Bermuda for Allianz and Axa XL. He joins assistant vice-president, finance, Armin De Weert in the growing Bermuda office of Carrick’s non-life run-off business.
Devin O’Malley, head of M&A at Carrick, welcomed Mr Mills to the company, noting: “Bringing more than a decade of reinsurance and accounting experience, together with automation, advanced analytics and actuarial modelling, Aidan will enhance our pricing discipline, streamline our diligence processes, and help Carrick evaluate and close legacy transactions faster.”
Alex Smith was named senior vice-president, operations, in London, for the Bermuda-based international non-life legacy insurer.
He joins from PoloWorks, where he had a consultancy role. He started his career at Aviva, and has previously worked at companies such as Amlin, Liberty Syndicates, Brit, Swiss Re, Dale Underwriting, Liberty Specialty Markets, Pen Underwriting, and Mission Underwriters.
Carrick chief operating officer Phil Hernon stated: “We have worked with Alex in the past, and he is exactly the type of professional we need to take the business forward: intelligent, innovative and knowledgeable. He has a clear understanding of both risk and capital, which are paramount in the legacy market.”
“I am delighted to have joined the high calibre team at Carrick,” said Mr Smith. “The role of SVP, operations, gives me the opportunity to drive operational performance and execution excellence to support the continued growth of the business, whilst utilising my broad industry experience that spans most aspects of the insurance value chain.”
