SiriusPoint names Sakakeeny as North America P&C chief
SiriusPoint Ltd has appointed John Sakakeeny as chief underwriting officer of North America property and casualty insurance, the company said today.
The appointment takes effect next Monday, February 2, and marks the creation of a new senior underwriting role within the Bermudian-based speciality re/insurer.
Mr Sakakeeny will report to Patrick Charles, head of North America insurance, and Anthony Shapella, group CUO. He will oversee underwriting and programme management teams across SiriusPoint’s North America insurance business, with responsibility for driving profitable growth and strengthening technical underwriting standards.
He joins SiriusPoint from The Hartford, where he most recently served as vice-president and head of casualty product for middle and large commercial business. Mr Sakakeeny has more than 20 years of industry experience.
Mr Charles said Mr Sakakeeny’s technical background and leadership would be central to the company’s next phase of development.
“In this role, John will act as the steward of technical authority for property and casualty products and serve as a key liaison to the group chief underwriting office on strategic capital allocation,” he said.
Mr Shapella said the position was created to embed deeper underwriting expertise within the North America division following a period of growth.
“After a significant build phase over the past two years, SiriusPoint has reached a scale that requires dedicated leadership to support product development and strengthen managing general agent oversight,” he said.
Mr Sakakeeny said he was joining the company at a pivotal moment.
“I look forward to working closely with the North America team and the group chief underwriting office to help drive growth, strengthen our capabilities and deliver impactful solutions for clients and partners,” he said.
