In a spirited blend of sport, camaraderie and community impact, Willis Bermuda has turned a day of pickleball into a powerful act of giving.

The insurance brokerage firm recently announced a $30,000 donation to the Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association (LCCA), with proceeds raised from its first annual Pickleball Tournament.

The event — hosted by Willis Towers Watson (WTW) — drew teams from across the island’s insurance sector, turning friendly competition into collective generosity. Participants from various insurance carrier partners came together not just to play, but to make a difference.

What began as a light-hearted day on the courts evolved into a lively celebration of business and community. Alongside the matches, attendees enjoyed food, drinks and a spirited atmosphere that embodied Bermuda’s collaborative corporate culture.

A highlight of the day was the crowd-pleasing “Dunk Your Favourite Broker” tank, which offered plenty of laughter as volunteers took a plunge — all for a worthy cause. The playful spirit helped to keep energy levels high while reminding participants of the larger goal at hand.

“Seeing everyone come together — playing, laughing, and supporting such an important cause — was incredibly rewarding,” said Layton Outerbridge, chairman of the Willis give back committee.

“The generosity and enthusiasm of our partners made this donation possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

The $30,000 contribution will go directly towards assisting families in need of financial help for critical medical treatments, continuing LCCA’s long history of compassion and care for Bermuda residents.

Willis Bermuda said that beyond raising funds, the tournament showcased how corporate teamwork can extend beyond the boardroom. It served as a valuable networking opportunity for industry peers and a reminder of the positive change that can happen when businesses unite for a greater purpose.

A company statement said: “With a strong turnout, enthusiastic participation, and a meaningful community impact, Willis Bermuda’s debut Pickleball Tournament looks poised to become a new annual tradition — one that proves business can serve up more than just profits, but purpose as well”.
