Fiona Luck promoted to independent director of Lloyd’s Council in London

Veteran Bermuda re/insurance leader Fiona Luck has been made senior independent director (subject to regulatory approval) and deputy chair of Lloyd’s Council in London.

Lloyd’s is one of the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance markets.

The appointment follows Lord Mark Sedwill’s departure last November.

Sean McGovern, who joined Lloyd’s Council in 2023, has replaced Andrew Brooks as deputy chair, effective February 1.

They join Victoria Carter, who has served as deputy chair since 2021.

Sir Charles Roxburgh, KCB, chairman of Lloyd’s said: “I am delighted that Fiona has taken on additional council responsibilities as our senior independent director and to confirm both Fiona and Sean as our new deputy chairs.

“Their combined experience and deep understanding of the Lloyd’s market will continue to strengthen the council and guide our strategic priorities in the period ahead.”

Ms Luck has more than 30 years’ experience in insurance and reinsurance.

She is a non-executive director of the Convex group, of HSBC Bank Bermuda and chairwoman of Phoenix Re Bermuda.

She has previously held non-executive directorships for the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Allied World Holdings and Catlin Holdings.

Prior to that, she spent a decade at XL Capital in a variety of senior roles, including chief of staff and executive vice-president responsible for strategy, global human resources, information technology and corporate social responsibility.

She was president and chief executive of Marsh and McLennan’s Bermuda operation from 1992 to 1996.
