WiRe names Sophia Greaves Woman of the Year
Women in Reinsurance Bermuda has named Sophia Greaves its 2026 Woman of the Year.
The award was presented at the organisation’s International Women’s Day Gala on Friday, which brought together industry leaders to celebrate the contributions of women in Bermuda’s reinsurance sector.
The sold-out event attracted professionals from across the market, ranging from senior executives to early-career workers.
Ms Greaves is a director and head of the insurance and reinsurance practice at Conyers Dill & Pearman. She has nearly 20 years of experience advising reinsurers on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, market entry requirements and regulatory compliance under Bermuda’s Solvency II-equivalent regime.
She became the first Black woman to be appointed director at the firm in 2016 and the first to lead its insurance and reinsurance practice when she took on that role in 2024.
Peta White, chairwoman of WiRe and president of Vantage Risk, said Ms Greaves’ leadership highlights the importance of mentorship and support in developing the next generation of industry leaders.
Ms Greaves said the recognition was an “extraordinary career milestone”.
“To be recognised by a community of esteemed women whose work continues to shape the reinsurance industry locally and globally is both an honour and a privilege,” she said.
The keynote speaker at the gala was Fiona Luck, senior independent director and deputy chair of Lloyd’s Council, who highlighted the role women have played in shaping Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance sector over the past four decades.
