Amelia Othman will return to the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers this summer as a junior analyst, building on her successful internship last year when she made meaningful contributions to Abir’s policy and regulatory operations.

Abir said the announcement “officially kicks off the island’s largest private-sector internship programme”. Abir’s member companies hosted a total of nearly 100 paid interns last summer and also provided $1.25 million in scholarships for Bermudian students.

Collin Anderson, director of policy and regulation at Abir, said: “We are extremely pleased Ms Othman is rejoining the ABIR office this summer. She brings great insight and interest to her work, and her contributions have already had a significant impact.

“We are confident that the hands-on experience she gained within Bermuda’s globally significant re/insurance industry will serve her well as she embarks upon her future career path.”

Young Bermudian Ms Othman said: “I am grateful to have the opportunity to return to Abir as a junior analyst. Last summer introduced me to the world of policy and regulation, and being able to continue developing my skills within Bermuda’s re/insurance industry is incredibly rewarding.

“I’m excited to build on what I learnt and further explore a field that has already had a strong impact on my career path.”

John Huff, CEO of Abir, congratulated Ms Othman on her upcoming graduation from Brock University where she will receive a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (with a specialism in International Business).

Mr Huff said Abir’s members were “the largest collective contributor to Bermuda’s economy, contributing a record $1.2 billion to the economy in 2024, expected to be over $2 billion in upcoming 2025 figures”.
