Enstar announces three leadership appointments
Enstar Group has promoted its chief strategy officer, David Ni, to president as the Bermudian-based insurer expands beyond its traditional legacy business into specialist underwriting.
The company also announced the appointment of Mike Jones as chief operating officer and Ann Chai as chief risk officer.
Mr Ni joined Enstar in 2019 as executive vice-president of mergers and acquisitions. He will continue to lead the group’s strategy alongside Dominic Silvester, chief executive.
The appointments come as Enstar builds a broader business across retrospective insurance solutions and specialist underwriting, including through the addition of AF Group, a United States-based workers’ compensation and specialty insurer.
Enstar has long been one of Bermuda’s best-known legacy insurance specialists. Its core business involves assuming insurance portfolios that other carriers no longer wish to manage, then administering claims and reserves over time.
The company was taken private last year in a $5.1 billion deal led by investment firm Sixth Street, ending its more than two decades as a publicly traded Bermuda insurer. The move gave Enstar a new ownership structure as it sought to expand its capital and risk-management offerings.
The company said in the release: “As president, David will continue to lead Enstar’s strategy, working alongside [Mr Silvester] as the group expands across retrospective solutions and specialist underwriting.”
Mr Jones joins from Chubb, where he was VP, global operations officer and head of North America technology and operations. He will oversee Enstar’s global operations, technology and data functions.
Ms Chai was previously CRO for Zurich North America and global head of risk for Zurich Commercial Insurance. She will take over from Chloe Paillot, who will leave Enstar on December 31 to pursue other opportunities.
Mr Silvester said the appointments would support the group’s next stage of growth.
“Mike brings an impressive operations and technology track record that will be critical as we build a broader, more diverse business across retrospective solutions and specialist underwriting,” he said. “Ann is a highly respected risk leader whose expertise will strengthen our risk governance as the Group grows.”
