Marsden First United Methodist Church on South Shore Road, Smith’s will celebrate Heritage Month with a special service on Sunday, May 20 at 10.30 a.m., highlighting the beginnings of the Marsden congregation.

“The church’s ‘Genesis Heritage Service’ will celebrate those ancestors who gathered at the infancy of Marsden’s history as persons of faith to set in motion the activities and events leading to the formation of the congregation, and the building of the first church in Tucker’s Town,” Pastor Joe Whalen said.

“Previous anniversary celebrations have acknowledged the year when the first church was built as 1861, but on May 20 the Marsden church family is inviting descendants of the old Tucker’s Town community, and the community at large, to join us in honouring the unsung history of the 30 years preceding 1861, when the actual genesis of our congregation was evidenced in the gathering of a people in faith and service to Almighty God.”For further information, call Pastor Whalen at 293-7045.
