Finals of Christian Faith Quiz to be held tonight
Knowing how long Lazarus remained in the grave or how old Noah was when he died could win a team of five free airline tickets.
The final four teams competing at the Christian Faith Quiz Competition will be testing their religious knowledge at the finals tonight.
The competition is being put on by the Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church.
It tests participants on the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, the disciplines of the AME church and on current events.
?It?s exciting. It?s very exciting,? said Pastor the Rev. Wilbur Lowe.
?The objective is to get people to learn about the Bible and current events and the teachings of the church.?
Eight teams of five players each battled it out over two days to make it to the finals.
The four competing for the grand prize are: Generations of Spiritual Substance, Judah Warriors, Mount Zion Eagles and Mighty Galatians.
?There are five questions to each round and each team member gets asked a question,? Rev. Lowe explained.
?If a team member can?t answer a question they can confer with their teammates but will only receive five points.
?If they answer the question correctly they get 10 points.?
The teams, that include participants ranging in age from 12 to 80, are competing for the chance to win an airplane ticket to the US for each team member.
Other prizes include $100 travel voucher and dinner at Greg?s Steakhouse.
Questions range from: ?How many stones did David have left after he killed Goliath?? to ?Which country is attempting to ban the female Muslim headgear?
?The teams had to study the Bible but also read the religion section in for current events,? Rev. Lowe said.
?The competition can really be won during the current events questions.
?The teams can be really behind during the bible questions but if they?ve been reading the newspaper every week they can pull ahead,? he added.
Next year, Rev. Lowe hopes expand the quiz to all of the AME churches on the Island.
The finals will be held tonight at the Mt. Zion Church Hall at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children.
