Keeping families together is aim of lecture series

The Rockaway Seventh-Day Adventist Church is holding a lecture series beginning today until November 13 designed to keep healthy families together.

On a website, the church said the lectures are designed for married couples, single people or even those who are just looking for deeper meaning in life or who are interested in improving family life for others.

?People who are committed to making Bermuda a place where peace and safety and the spirit of family characterise life throughout the community,? will also be welcome, the church said.

Some of the topics of the lectures include building strong marriages and being better parents. Speakers include Dr. Jeffrey Brown and Dr. Sydney Gibbons. Dr. Brown is a qualified counsellor and a certified family life educator and has conducted evangelism and family life seminars in Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, England, France, Ghana, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, United States, Wales and Zimbabwe.

Dr. Gibbons, of Southampton, and his wife, Katherina, have enjoyed 23 years of marriage.

Dr. Gibbons provided service in Bermuda as a pastor for 13 years and served four churches.

But he left Bermuda for ten years to serve as a missionary in Cameroon, Africa, and other church activities. Four years ago he returned to Bermuda with his family.

There will be a meeting at the Mt. Zion AME Church Hall every day next month except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
