?Super Soulfest coming next month

Are you looking for powerful, spirit filled preaching, music that will inspire, singing that will stir you to your core, and dance that drives away sadness and elevates the soul?

Well, look no further than the evangelistic explosion known as ?Super Soulfest? taking place from August 16 to 20. It promises to be a week of restoration, renewal, refreshing and reconciliation with events and workshops that have the entire family in mind, and will appeal to a diverse audience.

Under the leadership of the Bishop of the First AME District, the Rt. Rev. Richard Norris, the churches of the First District, which comprise Philadelphia, Delaware, Western New York, Baltimore, Bermuda and New England, have joined together for a week of gospel activity.

The Bermuda Conference, comprising all 11 AME churches under the leadership of Presiding Elder Rev. Malcolm Eve, has been working frenetically over the past several weeks in concert with the Department of Tourism to plan for this great undertaking.

In advance of the ?Super Soulfest?, an 11-week evangelistic campaign, including weekly mission target areas and prayers for the community, has been underway. Each week an AME church and its surrounding areas has been highlighted, and missionary outreach encouraged among the membership of the AME church.

From August 16 to 20 a host of impressive speakers, teachers, gospel comedians, musicians and artists will converge and showcase their talent and ministry during this week of events, which is aimed at extending the good news of Christ beyond the walls of the church.

Activities will include inspirational workshops and worship, a gospel praisefest, ?kidzfest? and teenfest activities, youth worship, and a power breakfast for church and Government Leaders. Leisure events include golf, a midnight cruise, comedy, deep sea fishing, a cruise around the Sound with lunch, plus a ?Discovery Zone? fun camp for children aged five to 12.

The distinguished roster of speakers and musicians will include former US Congressman Rev Dr. Floyd Flake, Rev Dr. William Watley, Bermudian gospel artist Rev. Robert Lowe, who just debuted on the Gospel Billboard at No. 9, Rev. Raquel St. Clair, and J. Moss. Local artists and performers will include the ?Super Soulfest? massed choir, and an awe-inspiring liturgical dance troupe.

AME members and others from across New England, Delaware and Philadelphia are expected to attend the event thanks to the assistance of the Bermuda Department of Tourism and Transport.

The nightly worship experiences will take place at the CedarBridge Academy at 7.30 p.m, preceded by pre-service teachings at 6:30 p.m. The Bermuda National Stadium will be the venue for The Gospel praisefest and arts explosion will take place at the National Sports Centre on Saturday, August 15.

First Lady of Vernon Temple AME, Rev. EmilyGail Dill, chair of the programming and public relations committee, says it would be a mistake to view ?Super Soulfest? as a ?one-off event.?

?This should be seen as just one part of an ongoing and continuous outreach that started before, and will continue, after the last artist has left the stage and the last dance is ended.

?A stellar event such as ?Super Soulfest? has its place in the overall scheme of the AME churches because it acts as an effective rallying point for persons of faith and persons who are ?unchurched? to have another opportunity to interact in a pleasant setting.

?Our community has seen a high rate of accidental death on our roads, and egregious violence against persons. We also see persons struggling to maintain in a quickly changing economy. As a church family we have to follow Christ?s call to minister to our neighbours in a meaningful and direct way. We want to remind persons that there is a God and a faith community that stands ready to support, assist and love.

?We are calling on everyone to participate with us in this worshipful experience, which we hope will continue the important work of healing and reconciliation that has already begun.?

Registration for ?Super Soulfest? is $75 per person. The price includes reserved seating at all services, free admission to all workshops, seminars and the gospel praisefest, and a discount on all other ?Super Soulfest? events for registered persons. There is no charge for worship experiences, and the entire public is encouraged to come out and attend.
