Bermudian up for gospel award

Bermudian Gospel singer-songwriter, Chelsea Nisbett, has been nominated for a Canadian Gospel Music Award, it was announced.

The song, "Slow Down," off of her CD, "New Beginnings", which was released in March of this year, has been nominated in the Jazz and Blues Category. "Slow Down" is the fifth song on the CD and was written by Nisbett herself.

Chelsea shared with the Royal Gazette at the time of the "New Beginnings" launch that she wanted the album to inspire those around her to be: "People of hope, people of faith and people of action.

"I guess it's my background in the church that causes me to want to inspire listeners toward a message of hope. My band and I are here to tell anyone who will listen that you can have faith and fun at the same time." Grand-daughter of Rev. Canon Thomas Nisbett, Chelsea is currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Nisbett's music finds its influences in acoustic rock, jazz, R&B and soul.

The Awards program and the GMA Canada Week celebrations will be held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, October 24-26.

Chelsea has also been nominated for Inspirational Artist/Recording Artist of the Year in the Nova Scotia Music Awards and for three awards in the African Nova Scotian Music Association Awards - the Up and Coming Youth Award, Galaxie Rising Star Award of CBC and Arist/Group of the Year.
