Mormon church gets new leader
The local Mormon community recently welcomed its newest Elder to the Island, Elder Matthew McDonald. He joins a small team of missionaries, including Elder Larsen and Elder and Sister Adamson.
Hailing from Kaysville, Utah, he said: "I never expected to serve in New York City. And when I found that the New York City Mission included Bermuda, I was even more surprised."
He has been taken a back by the friendliness of Bermuda's population.
"When I first arrived in Bermuda, I immediately noticed people's friendliness. I came from a city where people honk their horns in anger, and now I'm in a place where people honk to say hello. It's such a pleasure to hear the friendly toots and Bermuda has been an awesome experience."
Most of the young men that travel around the world with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are between the ages of 18 and 20.
While not required to give up two years of their life for ministry service, it is strongly encouraged. The young men must also raise all the funds for their ministry term. "As a missionary, there is no greater joy than seeing someone make steps in their life towards Christ."
Elder McDonald said: "I owe everything to my parents, who taught Christian principles in our home and always allowed me to make my own decisions. I hope to share those Christian principles with the good people and families here in Bermuda. We can be reached at 747-0479. Please call if there is anything we can do for you."
