New Mormon elder arrives in Bermuda
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have welcomed their newest elder, Elder Cody Jack Larsen.
Hailing from Draper, Utah, a small town outside of Salt Lake City, Elder Larsen expressed his thrill of being in Bermuda.
"I can't explain how great it is to be in Bermuda," he said. "The people here are probably the friendliest, kindest people in the world. From the time I got on the airplane and sat next to a Bermudian until now, the people have been very nice. I'm so happy to be here."
Like most young men and women of the Mormon faith that serve as missionaries, Elder Larson needed to raise the funds to come to Bermuda.
"Before coming on my mission, I worked for a landscaping company to earn enough money to pay for this great experience," he shared.
He credits his parents with a positive upbringing that he hopes will help him in his ministry to Bermuda.
"I lived on a small farm raising horses, goats and chickens. I come from a family of six children ¿ two girls and four boys ¿ all whom I love. My parents raised me well. My dad taught me hot to work and my mom taught me how to love. I am so grateful for both of them."
What are his goals during his time in Bermuda?
"As a missionary, I want to help people come unto Christ, by inviting them to receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. My invitation to you, the public, is to see if we can add to the truths you already treasure.
"I am also here to serve. I love doing service. If you see us around, let us know if there is anything we can do to help you."
At the end of his time in Bermuda, Elder Larsen hopes to return to school to continue his education and to play American football.
