Church gets into the arts
Transforming Arts is offering a range of exciting “classes taught with a touch of Jesus”, which are designed to enhance the skills of people, both in their personal and church lives.
According to the Rev. Joyce Hayward of St. George’s, participants will soon have an opportunity to study four topics: Audio/visual media for the masses, functional graphics, salsa for couples, and basic presentation skills, which include the following segments:
Audio/visual media for the masses: Use of sound board, video editing, music editing and recording. The 12-week course costs $125 excluding materials, which will cost an estimated $50. Prerequisite: basic computer skills and a home computer. Venue: Just Platinum Recording Studio, 72 Church Street. Classes: Choice of Tuesdays or Thursdays beginning March 6. Facilitator: Steve Easton.
Functional Graphics: How to create brochures, business cards, letterhead, basic calendar, PowerPoint presentations to create newspaper advertisements, scan documents and pictures. Prerequisite: computer/laptop with Publisher and/or Print Shop and some computer skills. Cost: $95 for eight weekly evening classes, beginning in April. Venue: St. George’s Karate/Dance Studio, 12 Old Military Road. Facililtator: Michelle Doars>
Salsa for Couples: One-hour classes on Saturdays from 6 p.m., beginning this evening. Cost $125 for 12 weeks. Venue: St. George’s Karate/Dance Studio, 12 Old Military Road. Facilitators: Juan and Judy Mello.
Basic Presentation Skills: For those wishing to develop/improve leadership skills, become a better communicator, be comfortable on stage, speaking in public/in front of a camera, or people who are part of a puppetry/drama or choral/speaking ministry. Cost: $125 for 12 classes from March 5 to May 21. Venue: St. George’s Karate/Dance Studio, 12 Old Military Road. Mondays 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Facilitator: Lorna McGowan, CTM. Prerequisites: No prior experience, but ability to be stretched and taken outside your comfort zone; commitment; willingness to learn. Course ends with DVD of each participant for self-assessment, and certificate of completion.
