Church holds first ever scrapbook event
'The Love of a Lifetime Scrap-a-Thon,' Bermuda's first-ever all-day scrapbooking event, is to be hosted by the Evangelical Church of Bermuda in Paget on Saturday, February 16.
The event will take along the lines of the extremely popular scrapbooking days, weekends and conferences which take place across the United States and the rest of the world.
"Our focus is more than just scrapbooking," coordinator Sara Westhead said. "We want to provide women of all ages with an opportunity for fellowship with other women, to learn more about their hobby, and to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Scrapbooking has become a major portion of the craft industry in recent years, with young women particularly drawn to preserving their family memories for future generations, in addition to those wishing to compile family history in a pleasing manner. An outgrowth of this industry has also been the development of Faithbooking, which allows women to not only record a family's physical history, but also its spiritual legacy.
"Women will travel across country to attend such events, and I have little doubt that women in Bermuda will be greatly interested in attending such an event locally," Mrs. Westhead said. "As a result, we have a ready audience with whom to share the gospel, and also share the ministry services of the Evangelical Church of Bermuda."
The Love of A Lifetime Scrap-a-Thon will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m., and will cost $40 per person. Registration includes lunch, a gift bag, two classes and the opportunity to win one of several prizes in a variety of games and contests. Guest speaker for the event will be Mrs. Kim Fisher, a member and wife of one of the church's deacons.
To register, contact the Evangelical Church of Bermuda's office at 236-2294 or by e-mailing evangel@northrock.bm. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, February 6.
