The Evangelical Church of Bermuda held its first ever Scrap-a-Thon last weekend.

More than 50 women attended the all-day event, which included lunch, contests, games and prizes, all centred on the ever-popular hobby of scrapbooking and papercrafting.

"The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all," said event coordinator, Sara Westhead. "I was truly amazed to see just how popular the event proved to be, and I am already being asked when the next one will be."

The theme for the day was "Love of a Lifetime" and many of the day's activities, including a short devotional given by Kim Fisher, a member at Evangelical, which focused on God being the author of love.

"She started right at the beginning, in Genesis," Mrs. Westhead shared, "and looked at how sin came into the world, and how, right from the beginning, God made a plan to redeem the world from its sin through the death of Christ on the cross, and his resurrection three days later."

Several contests were held through the day, with Lisa Trott winning the grand prize drawing of a large scrapbooking set. Layout contests were also held, with Genelle John winning the Best Love Card contest, Wilma Lwe winning the best Love Layout contest, Greta James in the Embellishment contest and Laura Rego winning the Best Faithbooking Layout. Morrissa Tucker won the People's Choice award.

"I'm sure we'll be holding more all-day events in the future," Mrs. Westhead added. "But until then, ladies are more than welcome to join us for our monthly scrapbooking evenings."

The Evangelical Church of Bermuda's Women's Scrabooking Ministry meets the last Saturday of every month in the Multi Purpose Centre from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
