Bermudian returns with army bank
of performing in his own country this month.
The 35-member band is to make its first visit to the Island from October 22 to 25 to perform at the Salvation Army's Annual Congress.
Former Warwick Academy student Mr. Kevin Hayward joined the Canadian Staff Band in 1988. This May he was commissioned bandmaster of the Salvation Army York Minister Corps (church) in Toronto, Canada.
His parents Mr. and Mrs. Winslow Hayward are Salvationists in Bermuda.
Mr. Hayward will be performing as trombone soloist at the congress.
The bandmaster of the Canadian Staff Band is Mr. Brian Burditt, a flugle horn player.
He was appointed bandmaster in 1985 and under his leadership the band has performed throughout Canada and in the United States, Switzerland, Norway and the United Kingdom.
Territorial leaders for the Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda, Commissioner and Mrs. Wesley Harris, will be conducting the congress.
Commissioned as an officer in 1948, Commissioner Harris spent 25 years commanding the Army's evangelical centres in Great Britain.
