PLP to put the spotlight on heroes and heroines

Progressive Labour Party plans to hold its annual Martin Luther King and Bermuda Heroes and Heroines Day tomorrow at St. Paul's Centennial Hall.

Events planned for the day, which will begin at 3 p.m., will include the presentation of this year's Drum Major Awards and performances of choirs from CedarBridge Academy, the Paget Primary School, the Victor Scott School and Mount St. Agnes. Recipients of this year's awards for "outstanding work'' are Helena Brice with the Boys and Girls Brigade; Derek Tully with the Sea Cadets, Cecil Downs with the Boys Brigade, Ruth Riley for her contribution to Community Development, and Leonard (Shinah) Simons with the Boy Scouts.

A joint dramatic reading of American civil rights leader the late Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech "I have a Dream'' will also be presented.
