Bermudian named to senior education job
conferences' educational programme.
The Texico Conference executive Committee of the Seventh-Day Adventists Ministries' Southwestern Union Conference recently voted to install Gladstone (Wilton) Simmons as its new education, health and temperance and communication director.
Of his new appointment, Mr. Simmons said: "If we can assist our teachers to lead the youth and children to commit their lives to Christ, then we have accomplished a lot.
"This is my dream for the Texico Conference and it is what I am committed to doing.'' To take up his new post, Mr. Simmons will bid farewell to El Paso, Texas where he was the principal of El Paso Junior Academy for the past seven years.
Under his leadership, the school grew from 37 to 78 students and from three to six teachers.
Prior to heading up that school, Mr. Simmons was the principal of Carethers Elementary School in Houston.
Mr. Simmons is a graduate of Bermuda Institute, Oakwood College and Southern Adventist University.
He received his BA degree in theology and education from Montemorelos University in Mexico before returning home to teach at Bermuda Institute in the mid-1980s.
He later left to obtain his Masters degree in religion from Andrews University and has pursued his goals in the US since then.
