Bermudian singers being sought for new label -- Recording executives seek to
Recording executives with some Bermudian roots are on the Island this weekend looking for local artists for their new label.
Former Grammy Award Nominee Reverend Robert Lowe of the Moriah Music Group in Queens, New York, is visiting the Island to celebrate the release of his new album.
The album, `Total Experience', features the combined choirs of Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church -- a church which also boasts being home to a new independent recording label.
Rev. Lowe is the son of Bermudian born Reverend Vernon I. Lowe and the former Eunice Raynor.
Record company executives Raleigh Hall and Shirley Matthews, who is also responsible for "Amateur Night at the Apollo'', accompanied Rev. Lowe on his visit.
Together they hope to witness the best of Bermuda Gospel and explore ways in which they can partner with Bermuda's artists to further promote their talents in the international arena. Following a Friday night release reception for Rev. Lowe there was a Bermuda Gospel Artist Showcase at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.
Some of the Island's most popular artists as well as some newer gospel performers were there.
The line-up included: Huntley Septimus, SDA Inspirational Choir, Twanee, The Miracle Temple Sunbeam Choir, Nhoj Steede, Antonia Simmons, Francine Rollins, Junior C, the VIP Singers, Rejoice, En Vision, Proclaim, Erica Martin and others.
Distinguished patron for the event was Mr. Kelly Zuill, Bermuda's leading Gospel DJ, who can be heard every morning on ZBM 1230 from 6 to 8 a.m.
The event was hosted by the Degrees of Excellence Educational Organisation and proceeds will benefit the Degrees of Excellence Scholarship Fund and the Higher Visions Youth Leadership programme. Degrees of Excellence chose to help the Rev. Lowe because he was seen as a shining example of what people could do if they applied themselves, honed their gifts and talents and trusted in God for guidance.
The organisation seeks to inspire and support individuals in reaching their academic and career goals and endeavours to present programmes that will motivate individuals for success.
Tickets for the events were $30 for Patron tickets that included the Concert and Release Reception.
