Boys Choir set to debut at Cathedral

The new Anglican Boys Choir is set to make its debut in the Cathedral on Sunday after four months of preparation.

And Director Gary Burgess said the more than two dozen boys -- ranging in age from seven to 12 -- will make an impressive showing on Advent Sunday.

Yesterday during a rehearsal, Mr. Burgess, eying the group of active pre-teens, told The Royal Gazette : "Once I get them settled, they sing beautifully together. It will be a good performance.'' The Anglican Cathedral formed the choir with boys who attended a two-week camp in July.

In the camp the boys were introduced to the theory of music, history of music, sightsinging, and performance practices.

They also learned such things as respect, promptness, and discipline.

Mr. Burgess is assisted by church organist Ruth Henderson and accompanist Greta Jones.

The Anglican Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Ewan Ratteray and the Canon Residentiary, Rev. Canon John Diehl will attend the 11 a.m. service.

The boys come from a variety of schools with 10 singers from Saltus Grammar, Warwick Academy with five, and Heron Bay with three.

Harrington Sound, Francis Patton, Mount Saint Agnes, Whitney Institute, West End, Prospect, St. David's Primary, and West Pembroke have one singer each.

There is one home schooled boy.
