Thursday will be Cathedral Appreciation Day, with representatives of clubs and companies attending a special celebration service with music by the Menuhin Foundation, followed by lunch.

"We're delighted that the Mayor has proclaimed this special day,'' said Bishop the Rt. Rev. William Down. "We feel it is important to ensure that the cathedral will maintain its `open arms' policy, serving individuals and the many organisations that use the building.'' In the past nine months emergency restoration work on the cathedral's stonework and stained glass has been completed at a cost of more than $2 million.
