Choir celebrates 50th anniversary
The Allen Temple Senior Choir is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
And it is marking the milestone by singing at a service on Sunday at Allen Temple Church on Soundview Road, Sandys Parish. The choir's music ranges from contemporary to sacred and the repertoire includes Give Me Your Tired Your Poor, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, and I Don't Feel No Ways Tired.
The choir will also be featured at a gala banquet on Thursday, October 7 at the Allen Temple Youth Centre.
The banquet, which is one of the highlights of the choir's 50th anniversary, is under the patronage of Community and Cultural Affairs director Grace Rawlins. The guest speaker for the evening will be Maj. Kenneth Dill. Dinner music is to be provided by famed local musician Wendell (Shine) Hayward, and there is to be a special appearance by singer Toni Robinson.
Through the years the choir have performed in just about every church hall in Bermuda, and supported many civic and charitable organisations.
In 1983 the choir toured the United States giving some five performances in New York, Connecticut, Philadelphia, and New Jersey. The director of the choir is Patrick McDonald Mills.
