Churches' Hallowe'en party
laid on special fun nights to keep youngsters out of trick-or-treat trouble.
Among them was West Pembroke Pentecostal where the Rev. Harlyn Purdy organised games and prizes. Rev. Purdy is the outgoing president of the Bermuda Ministerial Association.
"I know of churches that did the same, but we didn't do anything uniformly as an association,'' he said.
Rev. Purdy said his church organised alternative Hallowe'en nights every year.
"We do it for safety reasons,'' he explained.
"We make sure all the children have treats, such as candies, to take home with them.'' Police yesterday said they had to deal with a spate of Hallowe'en hooliganism.
Damage was caused to cars and homes on Saturday evening. And there were several egg-throwing incidents.
Police and fire officers also dealt with a possible arson attack on a building site in Cemetery Road, Pembroke on Sunday evening.
Building gear worth several thousand dollars was destroyed.
Said Police spokeswoman Sgt. Roseanda Jones: "Officials have not ruled out the possibility of arson.'' Sgt. Jones said she was unaware of any charges stemming from Hallowe'en trouble. It was normal to let off egg-throwing youngsters with a warning.
