Churches stage Gospo Fest
charity.
The Seventh Day Adventist, Cedar Hill New Testament Church of God, AME's St.
Luke's and Richard Allen, New Covenant Faith Centre, the Salvation Army and Cobbs Hill Methodist Church are participating in the next week's Gospo Fest `97.
The November 16 extravaganza will also see input from Better Covenant Christian Fellowship, Calvary Gospel Chapel and Radnor Road Christian Fellowship.
Community activist and organiser L.A. Virgil said the event was in aid of the Bermuda Physical Handicap Association.
"The funds will help them travel to Disney World,'' Ms Virgil said. "For some of them it will be their first trip.'' Physically challenged Claire Anne Moore said: "Some of those travelling are terminally ill so this may be a first and a last so we need your help.
"Not everyone can climb out of bed in the morning, put on their own clothes, get in the car, drive to a parking spot and walk to work. For some of us this is an independent dream. Therefore for us to get up and travel together is a dream not a routine.'' If more money than needed for the trip is raised, the excess will go to accident victim Tamisha Hill and Jerry Fough who is struggling to raise funds for a desperately needed wheelchair.
In addition to a performance by the show's patron, Transport Minister Wayne Furbert, Gospo Fest `97 will also feature the Calvary Gospel Puppets, Gospel Dancers Touch-n-Agreed, the Richard Allen Choir and the First Church of God's Youth Choir.
"There are a lot of acts ranging from puppet shows, to skits to singers,'' Ms Virgil explained. "We would like it to become an annual event.'' Gospo Fest `97 will take place at the Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets for the two-hour show are available at the Christian Bible Bookstore and at the Twenty-Seventh Century Boutique at a cost of $25 each.
